samsung frame tv review + faq

this post has been a long time coming - i’m fiiiinally sharing all the deets with you guys about our Samsung Frame TVs, answering all the questions i’ve been asked over the years, sharing if a frame TV is worth it, etc etc.

we got our first frame TV in 2019. we had one in the living room of our old house but when we moved to our current house…our Frame TV looked awkwardly small above our mantle so we moved that one to our room, & purchased a bigger one for our living room!

the highlights

  • my first & biggest highlight of the frame TV is for sure art mode! being able to choose art & switch it out, & have the option of setting art mode anytime the TV isn’t playing, is a true game changer for how a TV looks in your home.

  • the frame has a more matte screen finish than traditional TVs, which makes your chosen art look way better (& imo, doesn’t affect the quality when you’re watching a show!)

  • the “no gap wall mount” is amazing. the mount that the TV comes with pushes it flush against the wall you hang it on, aka it looks even more like art & feels way less obtrusive than a normal TV

  • there’s no plugging things into the back of the TV & dealing with tons of extra cords - everything is plugged into one “connect box” which keeps it all so organized & less overwhelming!

  • have i mentioned art mode?

Frequently Asked Questions

is it hard to install?

no harder than any other wall-mounted TV! but you can always either hire a pro, or tbh it also looks great just sitting on the minimal stand that’s included, if you don’t want to mount it (or if you rent & can’t hang on the walls!). we only hung the one in our living room; the other two are sitting on tv stands & they still look great. in our living room, we actually hid the box in the wall for an even cleaner look (see pic below).

what size do you have?

our living room is 65” & bedroom one is 55”! especially in the living room, we wanted something that fit the space over our big fireplace & didn’t feel dwarfed (we have super high ceilings, so art tends to look small on our walls).

how is the picture quality?

honestly so good! QLED tech, 4k resolution, all that stuff is included (which kyle cares about more than i do, lol). & they’re getting better with each new version, so if that matters a lot to you be sure to get the newest version available. i personally think the quality is perfect for normal tv watching!

is it a smart tv?

yes! you can connect all your apps, log into streaming services, airplay from your phone, etc & it all works on one (simple & beautiful!) remote!

where do you find your art?

samsung has an art subscription (i think it’s maybe $6 a month?) that you can use, but i personally just search etsy (& i’d def recommend that!). you can find basically any sort of art you want on etsy, & lots of times for just a dollar or two or even cheaper like this set of ONE HUNDRED, for $3.99???? unreal! i can do a roundup of my favorites if that’d be helpful!

i also love switching up the art if i’m hosting a party or something - i just create a design in canva with the frame dimensions, & then upload it! like making a cute collage for the party after my sister-in-law got engaged or a special background for hosting a baby shower, things like that.

it’s VERY easy to change the art as well. you can pick different options via the remote from the Art Store, or upload an image in the Smart Things app or via usb plugged into the box!

WHAT’S WITH THE DIFFERENT FRAME OPTIONS?

so the frame TV comes with just a skinny black ‘frame’ around it, but you can buy custom magnetic bezels to fit over it & make it look even more like art! we have the teak bezel on all of ours, & we love it (they come in teak, white, brown, & black, which is just a thicker version of the black that the TV comes with!). you can also find tons of other frame options if you want something not so modern to fit with your other decor, like this one on amazon. just be sure to double check that the frame you’re buying fits on the specific TV you have - not just the size, but also the model/year since the designs have changed a bit in recent years! i gotta be honest…i don’t understand when people put a black frame on a Frame TV when all the unique options (that make it look like a picture frame) are available haha. if you want a more ornate vibe, there are really great options available!

will the art burn into the screen?

okay so tbh i had no idea this was even a thing! but i’ve now heard that it’s possible with other TVs that if you leave an image up on your screen for too long, the image will never fully go away (no matter what you do, you’ll see an outline of that image on the TV from then on!). but this def does NOT happen with the frame since it’s designed to show static images!

it’s pretty expensive. would you really recommend it?

every TV i buy from now on will be a frame, i love them that much! but i would say it’s only worth it if aesthetics matter to you. if you don’t really care about the flush mount or the art mode, no need to splurge - any other smart TV is probably going to fit the bill for you. but if you love the idea of not seeing an ugly black box hanging off your wall all day (especially if your TV is in a really visible spot in your main living area!), then 1000% the frame is worth it!!

also…just recently the first frame TV dupe was launched! my best friend & SIL have it so I’ve seen it in person & it is a phenomenallll dupe at about $200 cheaper than Samsung. it functions virtually the same as the Frame so literally everything i shared above applies! this model wasn’t around when we got our 2 frame TVs but had it been…i think i would opt for the Hisense one.
