organize my house with me!

does anyone else get hit with a ‘clean & organizing everyyyyything’ bug right after the holidays?! because i DEFINITELY do, & this year i felt it even more than normal (blame it on pregnancy nesting?). soooo i spent the first week or so of 2023 reorganizing every. single. closet & cabinet in the house. i recruited a pal (i need moral support when i organize) & got to work. here are pics + links to everything i bought, updated, & refreshed!

— the entry closet

first up! we totally reorganized this closet a few months back, so it wasn’t in totally rough shape; just needed a little tidy! putting a shelf unit in this closet has made allll the difference. we use one shelf for kyle’s shoes, one for my shoes, & one for an organizer with fostie’s diapers, wipes, & hair ties. i put that down low so foster can grab her own diapers, & it’s been the best to teach her to help! then there’s a basket on the floor with all of fostie’s shoes so she can pick those out + put them away.

we went for the bookshelf unit over a whole built-in because there’s some great hooks on the right side of the closet that hold dog leashes, & we wanted some extra tall space on the right side as well for our vacuum & all its random parts. also… because we already owned it :) you probably already own most of the things you need for organizing!

the top shelf holds so many random cords, it stresses me out to think about…but ya gotta keep your wifi router & all that shizzz somewhere, amirite? it’s hidden enough for me to not notice it regularly, but still accessible.

shop this closet: random baskets are all thrifted | bookshelf | steam mop | vacuum cleaner | hanging shelf | diaper bag (la mere original) | headphones | makeup bag | boots

— the mudroom closet

the hidden closet in our house that never gets any love… :) i call it the mudroom, but really this closet is directly next to the door out to our garage, in a hallway we haven’t done anyyyything with. it’s mostly the coat closet, since that’s easy access when we’re headed out to the car!

we started with pulling ev.ery.thing. out, & making piles of what should live in that closet, what needed to be re-homed elsewhere in the house or garage, & what needed to get out of the house ASAP. from there, i just spent a minute thinking through what setup made the most functional sense, & added everything back in!

— the linen closet

LOL at this before pic. i’m so sad i don’t have an after because this was probably the most satisfying transformation. so we def had to tackle the linen closet. i’ve seen lots of tips on the internet to fold sheet sets together (flat sheet, fitted sheet, & pillowcases), & same for duvet covers/pillowcases, but since i love mixing & matching my linens, that solution isn’t the best for me! i’m also team ‘no top sheet’ allll the way :) so instead, we sorted everything into categories by size & type.

the top two shelves are all king size bedding. we have 2 king beds; one in our room & one in the main guest room. with two adults, a kiddo, & two dogs sleeping in our bed most nights, i need lots of extra linens on hand! bulky quilts up top, then duvet covers on one side of the shelf & fitted sheets folded (-ish) on the other. then the next shelf down is all queen-sized, again with duvets & fitted sheets stacked separately.

pillowcases are such a simple & inexpensive way to change up the look of your whole bed! so the next shelf is alllll pillowcases, with square shams on the left, ‘normal’ (queen?) size in the middle, & king pillowcases on the right. i do love to keep sets together here, so i can make sure i have enough of a given color before i start making the bed!

then down to the bottom, where i stacked towels (hand & bath), table linens (i cut up two old sheets to make into napkins for thanksgiving last year!), & picnic/throw blankets.

i don’t have pics, but a ton of my favorite linens are from parachute home - here’s a biiig blog post with all my parachute faves!

— the living room armoire

i got this beauuuutiful armoire for christmas from kyle’s whole family a few years ago, & i love how functional & also stunning it is! it was becoming kind of a catch-all for random things, so it just needed a quick refresh. we store candles & holders (turns out i have a ton of candles….?!), disposable dinnerware & utensils (we host a lot, so it’s super simple to have disposable options on hand!), all our board games, & a few other random odds & ends. i love how simple this turned out!

shop this closet: armoire | plant | vase | osea body oil | similar phone stand | beeswax candles | white candle holders | clay candle holders | floor poufs | white muslin blanket | baskets & ice bucket are thrifted

— the pantry

we’re so lucky to have a big walk-in pantry with tons of storage, but that also means there’s more space to clean & more room to misplace things, so this by farrrrr took the longest amount of time to clean out & organize!

i started by taking everyyything off the shelves, & ditching anything expired. peep kyle inspecting the box of expired food 👀 from there, i thought through the space again, & rearranged some baskets & turntables to make a little more sense! such as, i moved a few turntables up to a higher shelf, where it’s harder to see items in the back.

then fiiinally i put everything back, with recipes in mind for how i’d use some of the cans & such that have been in there for a while! SO freaking satisfying.

shop this closet: wood top jars (some others are thrifted) | tall jars | weck jars | lazy susan | clear bins | MICROWAVE | apron | tea storage box

— the kitchen cabinets

basically, our process for all the kitchen cabinets was the same:

step one: remove every single thing from the cabinet!

step two: wipe down the shelves & any organizers with thieves.

step three: sort through & take out anything that you no longer want or need.

step four: put it allll back in :)

shop thIS drawer: spice jars | spice jar lids | spice labels

i know one of the biggest hurdles with organizing spaces is what to do with all the things you don’t want in your house anymore! sometimes it’s worth selling things on facebook marketplace (list things right away, so you don’t put it off!), but for most things not worth selling, i’ll just send a quick pic to friends (like our workout club group chat!) & offer it all to anyone who wants it! i definitely do a goodwill drop at the end, but it’s way more fun to potentially see things get a second life in a pals’ home!

this was possibly the longest blog post everrrrr. cheers to organizing!
