my nail routine

i get asked all the time about my nails & what i ask for at the nail salon so i’m going to write it all out so it can live here foreverrrr for easy reference!

to be honest, my FAVE look is natural nails - no paint, dip powder, nothing. buuuut getting my nails done is literally the ONLY won’t bite my nails/cuticles. i’ve tried every other way & dip powder is the only solution, so here we are. i like for my nails to be pretty, simple & natural looking so here’s what i ask for to get that vibe!

THIS IS WHAT MY NAILS LOOK LIKE AFTER 2-3 WEEKS OF GROW OUT! MY NAILS GROW FASTTTT.

THIS IS BEFORE MY GIRL APPLIES THE DIP! THEY LOOK POINTY BUT SHE ROUNDS THEM OUT!

the process

i always get dip! i prefer it over gel. it lasts sooo long (like, it doesn’t chip AT ALL), & it’s easy to get redone. if you’ve never gotten dip, basically they file your nails, then put a layer of ‘glue’ (it’s not really, but it acts like a glue) & they literally dip each nail into a powder (hence the name “dip”) then they paint a clear coat sealant on top & put your nails under a UV light! some salons call it “SNS” or “SNS dip”. i personally like it pretty thin for again, a natural look! i get 3-4 coats with the powder i use (& then of course it gets filed/buffed down too!).

my nails grow pretty fast so i try to go every 2 weeks but a lot of times it ends up being 2.5-3! the whole process takes about an hour - shorter if you don’t have any gel or dip to get removed. my nails are pretty long so i don’t get tips but if you want a longer look, you can always pay extra for tips!

the shape

ask for rounded, but not too rounded ;) the first time, i literally just showed them a pic of what i wanted - screenshot this post so you can do the same! it’s technically like an almond shape, but with rounded tips.

the color

i bring my own, because i’m me haha. i got this dip powder in color milky white, & it lasts forever! before i found this one, i just looked for a milky white with tiiiny blush undertones. but seriously - consider getting the one i linked because it is THE perfect natural milky white.

MY BIGGEST TIP

my final tip is to find a salon/person you LOVE. ask a nail-loving friend who she goes to, or find a place close by & read reviews! the person who does your nails matters a TON. my girl is incredible - sooo precise, perfectionistic & sweet. i had to try out a few salons & nail techs before i found her though! if you’re in denver, go see Rachel at the Northfield M Vince Nails 💅
