go-to vanilla simple syrup recipe

a few years ago i started making my own simple syrups & i haven’t stopped! it sounds fancy, but is sooo easy. & it instantly elevates your at-home coffee game! vanilla bean syrup is a classic so here’s my go-to recipe that makes for a delicious & easy iced vanilla latte, added to matcha, or even drizzled over pancakes or waffles!

first, a moment of silence for my favorite spot in our kitchen - the * beverage nook *. here’s a blog with links to allll my coffee essentials!

the key to an amazing vanilla simple syrup is using whole vanilla bean pods! i grab these from amazon. use a sharp knife to cut the vanilla bean pod lengthwise, then use the edge of the knife to scrape out all of the insides (basically looks like vanilla bean paste!) .you’ll just use the inside portion, so you can toss or reuse the pod itself!

ingredients

  • 1 cup water

  • 1 cup sugar

  • 1 vanilla bean pod

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

recipe

  1. add water + sugar to a small saucepan over medium heat, & stir until combined

  2. scrape out the inside of the vanilla bean, & toss the outside (see instructions above!)

  3. once the sugar melts, add the vanilla bean + vanilla extract

  4. simmer & stir until it thickens a bit (just a few minutes)

  5. let cool & transfer to a glass jar like this one or this one!

store at room temp for about 2 weeks, or longer in the fridge :) cheers!
